Susquehanna Scout is a podcast that explores the Susquehanna River and its ripple effects across Pennsylvania and beyond.
The Susquehanna River is an icon of our region.
Its river towns, bridges and shores serve as a backdrop for our daily lives.
The Susquehanna is also vital, supplying our towns and cities with water and power.
But it’s so much more.
The waterway provides recreation, such as fishing and boating, and is an economic driver for its river towns.
With a special place in history as one of the oldest rivers in the world, it’s studied today by scientists, biologists and schoolchildren alike.
The river is often seen as a dividing line, bordering our counties as it slices through the entire state of Pennsylvania. But we see the Susquehanna as a topic that unifies us – as a topic of common ground and conversation that many of us care about, in Pennsylvania and beyond.

Join us for The Final Four:
If the Susquehanna River had a lucky number, it might be four. That’s because the river is 444 miles long. And that’s why every podcast will end with “The Final Four” – four minutes devoted to YOUR stories, concerns, thoughts, even memories about the river. Individuals, organizations and businesses are welcome to record a message, no longer than four minutes. Email it to us, attached as a voice text, to scout@witf.org.
How to shape future Susquehanna Scout episodes:
Are you connected to an organization focused on the Susquehanna? Maybe you’re a business owner whose livelihood depends on the river. Or, maybe you know a dedicated volunteer even an unsung hero who deeply cares about the river. Send us your story ideas for future episodes of the Susquehanna Scout! Email us at scout@witf.org.
Why is the podcast called Susquehanna Scout?
A scout is someone who leads the way, asking questions and gathering information to share. We strive to fill that role, through meaningful, thoughtful and often fun conversations about the Susquehanna River.
