Have you listened to Smart Talk since its inception in 2008?
The radio program launched as a rapid response to the fears surrounding the Great Recession. Taking the name of the public affairs WITF television production at the time, Smart Talk continued long after the recession, and after the television program ended as well.
“We’ve heard how many conversations listeners have started with a friend after hearing a great episode,” said Fred Vigeant, WITF vice president and chief audience officer. “We’re proud of that. So, beginning October 31, Smart Talk will be known as The Spark, embracing how our show helps to ignite real conversations.”
The Spark will continue to be hosted by Scott LaMar and Aniya Faulcon. As well as continue to be an hour-long program at noon and 8pm, weekdays on WITF 89.5 & 93.3, and found on-demand wherever you get your podcasts.
“Smart Talk has evolved for the better,” said Scott LaMar. “We cover more than just headline news; some of our listeners’ favorite shows are about history, holiday foods or author interviews. But whatever we talk about, it’s always with people who have compelling stories to share. Changing the name signifies we recognize that it’s different, and we honor it.”
The Spark will feature a renewed focus on arts and culture along with the news of the day, human interest and cultural stories.
“We’re committing to explore more of our community,” said Aniya Faulcon. “Scott and I are aiming to ignite listeners’ curiosity through storytelling and topics that inspire conversation! And I’m looking forward to producing videos for our digital followers as well.”
Faulcon expects to post one feature digital video a week for The Spark.
