(Harrisburg) — The presidential campaign is marching on in Pennsylvania, with just days to go until Tuesday’s primary.
Former President Bill Clinton paid a visit to Harrisburg earlier today, speaking to an estimated one-thousand people in the atrium of the Keystone Building at the State Capitol complex.
Clinton, stumping for his wife Hillary, touched on the familiar themes in a meandering 35-plus minute speech: equal pay for women, investing in infrastructure, and making higher education affordable.
He says Hillary Clinton knows what it takes to be an effective president.
“From the time I met her 45 years ago to today, she has consistently been the best change maker I have ever known. And when you get to be president, all the blaming stops, all the talking stops, you have to stand and deliver and make change,” said Clinton.
Clinton also delved into some nitty gritty, saying Hillary is the best candidate because her infrastructure plan will do more than put people to work.
“There are many more cities than Flint, Michigan where babies have elevated lead levels in their blood because of old rusty pipes. She wants to tear all those pipes out, lay new ones, give all the children in America a healthy future and create a lot of jobs in the process.”
The 69-year-old’s voice was raspy at times, and some in the crowd filtered out after only a few minutes.
Hillary Clinton’s opponent, Bernie Sanders, was in Reading today, and is slated to visit Gettysburg and Millersville tomorrow, while on the Republican side, Donald Trump has a rally set for tonight at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg.
Clinton’s campaign hasn’t announced any midstate stops with the candidate herself.
