(Washington D.C.) — Pennsylvania’s junior U.S. senator has recognized the efforts of a Philadelphia police officer who was attacked and shot last Saturday.
Republican Senator Pat Toomey marked the courage of Philadelphia Police Officer Jesse Hartnett during a five-minute speech on the Senate floor yesterday, just days after Hartnett was wounded by a gunman who allegedly had loyalties to the Islamic State.
“He shot and wounded the shooter, the would-be killer. Because of his heroic action, literally under fire, the shooter was apprehended,” he said. “This is an amazing example of ‘true grit’ and the people of Pennsylvania couldn’t be more proud of Officer Hartnett.”
Just what ties the suspect, 30-year-old Edward Archer, has with ISIS is still being investigated.
Archer was denied bail after his arraignment.
