(Harrisburg) — The Sale of Champions at the Pennsylvania Farm Show is underway with a record price for one of the animals.
The first auction was for the Grand Champion Steer.
The bidding started at $10,000 and quickly increased to record territory.
“We have sold him. $30,000. Farm Show record. Thank you Hoss’s Steak and Sea House,” said Auctioneer Harry Bachman as he announced the winning bid.
The 1,300 pound crossbred steer named “Murica” was raised by 16 year-old Tyler Mattocks.
“I’ve been showing a steer since I was eight, so this is, like, my ninth year,” he said. “It’s a lot of fun, but it’s a lot of work. I’ve learned a lot of life lessons through it, such as responsibility and time management. So, I would totally recommend it.”
Mattocks’ family owns a 35-acre farm in Titusville, Crawford County
