YWCA to extend hours because of cold

(Harrisburg) — Because of the extreme dip in temperatures over the next few days, the YWCA is opening their doors at 1101 Market Street to women and women with children seeking shelter from the cold weather.

“With temperatures dipping below freezing, the YWCA is opening its doors to accommodate any female or female with children” said Mary Quinn, Vice President Programs.  “We will not turn anyone away.  This is a life sustaining service given the extreme cold.”

A single woman or a mother with children who comes to the YWCA between the hours of 8:30pm – 9:30pm will have an opportunity to shower before being offered shelter at the YWCA or the YWCA Safe Haven.  During the current freezing temperatures, these women will be offered an extended stay until lunch time, when they will be transported to Downtown Daily Bread.
