(Harrisburg) — The 2014 Pennsylvania Superintendent of the Year hails from York County.

West York Area School District Superintendent Emilie Lonardi is being recognized for her leadership, professionalism and community involvement.

Lonardi, who’s served as the district’s superintendent for 16 years, has been honored by the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators.

The group calls her a strong, honest advocate for public schools who’s moved the district toward higher levels of achievement.

The Pennsylvania award is part of the National Superintendent of the Year Program, which dates back nearly three decades.

Lonardi and the other 49 honorees will also be recognized February at the American Association of School Administrators National Conference on Education in Nashville.
