York businesses back transportation funding plan
(York) — York County businesses identify transportation funding as their top legislative priority this fall.
In a recent survey, funding to repair roads and bridges beat out an overhaul of the state pension system as the highest priority of York County Economic Alliance Business Advocacy Council members.
Sixty-one percent of respondents say they support a tax increase to fund statewide transportation infrastructure improvements.
Council Chair John Klinedinst says inaction is hurting the region.
Complete results of the group’s priorities survey will be released next week.
A $2.5-billion dollar a year transportation funding bill passed the state Senate this summer with bipartisan support. But, the issue has since stalled in the House, but Majority Leader Mike Turzai suggests the issue may be put to a vote next week.
