Unemployment rising slightly in much of the midstate
(Harrisburg) — The August unemployment numbers are mixed across the midstate, but most areas are posting slight increases.
Unemployment was unchanged in the Lebanon area, where its 6.3 percent jobless rate represents the lowest in the region.
The Harrisburg-Carlisle area posted an increase of one-tenth of a percentage point to 6.8 percent.
The Lancaster, Reading, York-Hanover and Chambersburg areas all posted identical increases of 0.1 percent. The Gettysburg and Pottsville areas saw their unemployment rates increase by two-tenths of a point in August, mirroring the statewide trend.
Pottsville has the midstate’s highest unemployment at 8.9 percent.
Minor improvements are being reported in the unemployment rates in Selinsgrove, Sunbury and Juniata County. Sunbury’s jobless rate fell most sharply, from 8.3 to 8.1 percent in August.
