York lawmaker to create Collegiate Advisory Council
(York) — A state lawmaker wants to engage York area students on issues of legislation and policy.
Citing the 10,000 York Countians enrolled in post-secondary education at any given time, Representative Kevin Schreiber is forming a new Collegiate Advisory Council. He says he’s looking to appoint nine post-secondary students to a one year term on the council.
The Democratic lawmaker says he wants to engage the students in the policy issues that impact their lives.
“[I want] to actually harness that brain power, get their creative minds going and recognize that they’re a significant portion of our population,” Schreiber explains. “So we should be working with them. We should be listening to them.”
Schreiber says the ideas generated could even help keep young adults in the area after they graduate. He says letters of interest are due to his office on Tuesday, and he hopes to announce the panel shortly thereafter.
